STICKING WITH 2020 RESOLUTIONS

How many of us said at the start of 2020 that this is the year that I will:

  • get organized!

  • downsize the contents of my basement!

  • convince (name your parents, partner or teenager) to get rid of stuff!

How are you doing with those New Year’s resolutions?

Newfoundland psychologist Janine Hubbard offers practical ideas to help us kick-start or keep those 2020 plans:

  • Set SMART goals that you can track.  I will clean out 3 boxes a week. Specific, measurable, achievable, realistic, and time-bound. Rather than a plan to "get organized this year".

  • Add rather than subtract: I will spend two hours organizing one evening per week starting with clothes closets. Rather than a plan to watch less Netflix.

  • Share your resolution with a supportive friend to whom you are accountable. Who can be your cheerleader? Or find a buddy with the same goals as you.

  • You don’t have to do it!  Or your path make take you in a different direction that what you first thought.  If your plan isn’t working, revise but don’t give up.

Here’s Janine Hubbard's fine article full of great humour and good will with more great ideas: Most New Year’s Resolutions Will Fail in Six Weeks: Here’s How You Can Beat the Odds.
